Hello Everyone and thank you for joining us weekly during our live Wed(NSI)days!

This week we are excited to welcome new guest speakers Dalton Hawkins, Sr. Geophysicist at SM Energy Company, and David Gray, Senior Vice President Integrated Solutions, SubsurfaceAI Inc., who will be sharing a presentation titled “Unconventional uses of AI in subsurface data for geohazard detection and optimizing well placement”.

There is a need to understand where the optimal zones and risks are before drilling and completing wells. This can now be done using Artificial Intelligence (AI).

AI requires training data that represents the expected range of geologic phenomena that may impact production. These include faults, probable locations of fractures, SRV’s and producing and non-producing zones.   Neural networks (NN) use existing well results in conjunction with existing seismic data to find relationships for each one of these phenomena individually. If valid relationships are found, then applying the NNs to this or other similar seismic data can quickly predict these phenomena prior to drilling and completing new pads.

In this presentation the speakers will show examples of using NNs to predict faults, SRV’s, and producing areas prior to pad drilling, all of which have the possibility of significantly improving the economics of your fields through optimization of well and completion placement and avoidance of geohazards.

Join us this week in welcoming our new guest speakers and to participate in what is sure to be a great discussion!
