Reservoir Modeling Software Accurately Simulates Biogenic Effects

CALGARY, Alberta–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Geomodeling Technology Corp., a leading provider of innovative software for the upstream oil and gas industry, today announced the release of SBED™ 4.2 and SBED™ 4.2 for Petrel* lamina-scale reservoir modeling applications.  SBED 4.2 adds advanced features to accurately model biogenic structures created by burrowing organisms and generate effective directional permeability. This release of SBED and SBED for Petrel also includes workflow improvements that accelerate the process of creating reservoir facies models.

Burrowing activity within a producing formation can add to sedimentary heterogeneity, but more importantly alters horizontal and vertical permeability. Using SBED 4.2, Geologists can better understand the subtle changes in permeability resulting from biogenic structures within sediments – an important concern for operators working IOR and EOR projects, such as steam-assisted gravity drainage and CO2 sequestration.

“Understanding the flow dynamics of permeability in bioturbated structures provides a potentially powerful reservoir development tool for today’s complex reservoir environments,” said Mark Klingbeil, Geomodeling CEO, “We are committed to keeping our customers on the leading edge of advancements in reservoir technology.”

SBED was developed through a consortium of eight of the world’s largest oil and gas companies in pursuit of capabilities beyond those offered by conventional reservoir modeling technology.  SBED removes the guesswork from permeability estimation and provides more accurate input for geocellular models and reservoir simulators.
