Advanced Software for Seismic Attribute Interpretation includes New Features for Unconventional Natural Gas Plays

CALGARY, Alberta–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Geomodeling Technology Corp.,a leading provider of seismic analysis and cross-scale modeling software for the upstream oil and gas industry, today announced a new release of AttributeStudio™, its cutting-edge seismic attribute interpretation software. AttributeStudio 6.5 includes advanced tools for well-to-seismic correlation enabling geophysicists to interpret unconventional natural gas plays in shale and other tight-rock formations faster and more accurately.  This release also includes state-of-the-art structure-oriented filtering capabilities and enhanced volumetric calculation and volume curvature visualization functions, expanding AttributeStudio’s comprehensive suite of tightly-integrated components for seismic attribute generation, visualization, calibration and interpretation.  AttributeStudio 6.5 is offered in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions running on Microsoft Windows operating systems, including Microsoft Windows 7.

AttributeStudio 6.5 includes the capability to calibrate seismic attributes with well logs and develop strong correlations between logs, seismic and fracture patterns.  This enables users to optimize fracturing programs in unconventional shale and other types of reservoirs where fracture patterns are important, such as carbonates.  Several types of structure-oriented filtering have also been incorporated into this release including: Kuwahara, Anisotropic Diffusion, Principal Component and Perona-Malik.  These advanced filters enable users to remove or reduce noise while preserving structural features, such as faults.  Preprocessing data with structural filters prior to running attribute analysis, such as Volume Curvature, will enhance results in many cases.

“Unconventional gas plays are the fastest growing area of interest for our customers and we are committed to supporting them with advanced features like well-seismic correlation and structure-oriented filtering,”
said Mark Klingbeil, Chief Executive Officer of Geomodeling Technology.  “We are excited to be able to offer leading-edge technology for oil and gas exploration in an easy-to-use, affordable package on Microsoft Windows that runs on both desktops and laptops.”
