Module 7: Near Wellbore Heterogeneity Modeling and Upscaling
As the foundation of the SBED package, Module 7 provides a comprehensive suite of tools for near-wellbore heterogeneity modeling and upscaling. It encompasses over 100 customizable sedimentary bedding templates tailored for clastic and carbonate environments, along with robust capabilities for bioturbation and fracture modeling. Additionally, the module offers grain size class modeling to precisely match the geological characteristics of each reservoir. Advanced data analysis tools enable thorough examination of core plug and well data, while property modeling techniques, conditioned to core plugs, ensure accuracy in reservoir characterization.
Key Features
- Sedimentary Bedding Structure Modeling:
- Access to a diverse library of over 100 bedding templates suited for both clastic and carbonate environments. Users can seamlessly edit and customize templates to align with specific reservoir attributes.
- Bioturbation Modeling:
- Flexible modeling of various bioturbation structures and geometries, each endowed with distinct petrophysical properties, allowing for comprehensive representation of reservoir complexities.
- Fracture Modeling:
- Simulation of fracture populations within the bedding structure model, enabling assignment of porosity and permeability values for each fracture set to capture their impact on reservoir behavior.
- Grain Size Class Modeling:
- Precise modeling of grain size classes for each well, conditioned to the proportion of grain size classes in each bedding type, facilitating accurate representation of reservoir heterogeneity.
- Data Analysis:
- Robust tools for estimating trends, distributions, correlations, and variogram models for core plug and well data, empowering detailed analysis and interpretation of reservoir characteristics.
- Property Modeling Conditioned to Core Plugs:
- Generation of multiple realizations of porosity and permeability, conditioned to grain classes or lamina types derived from core plug data. Techniques such as simulated annealing or generic algorithms ensure alignment with observed data.
- Synthetic Core Plug and Upscaling:
- Creation of synthetic core plugs and subsequent generation of porosity and permeability data after upscaling. Comparison with real core plug data at corresponding locations enhances model validation.
- Single-Phase Upscaling:
- Flexible options for defining upscaling intervals or upscaling to cells in a static reservoir model along the wellbore, facilitating accurate representation of single-phase flow behavior.
- Multi-phase Upscaling:
- Generation of up to 9 curves of upscaled relative permeability in each direction, accommodating various boundary conditions and driving mechanisms for comprehensive reservoir simulation.
