subsurfaceAI 2026.1 Release – Advancing Quantitative Interpretation with rockPhysicsAI

Calgary, Alberta- We are pleased to announce the release of SubsurfaceAI 2026.1, delivering important advancements in integrating rock physics, seismic interpretation, and reservoir characterization within a unified workflow. This release introduces rockPhysicsAI, a powerful new package that brings rock physics modeling directly into the interpretation environment—enabling geoscientists and engineers to move from elastic data to reservoir insight with greater consistency and confidence.

With enhanced data connectivity, improved visualization, and more scalable AI infrastructure, SubsurfaceAI 2026.1 strengthens end-to-end workflows from data integration through interpretation and validation. Expanded support for Petrel integration, new capabilities for multi-Z geobody interpretation, and improved data import workflows further streamline how subsurface data is prepared, analyzed, and interpreted.

Whether your focus is seismic interpretation, reservoir characterization, or integrated subsurface analysis, this release enables more reliable and consistent interpretation and decision-making.

Key Highlights

Rock Physics–Driven Quantitative Interpretation with rockPhysicsAI
The introduction of the rockPhysicsAI package integrates rock physics modeling directly into the interpretation workflow. Users can connect well logs, elastic properties, and seismic response within a consistent framework, enabling more robust interpretation. Support for steam, water, and bitumen systems enables SAGD-related workflows, while a generalized Gassmann formulation provides flexibility for fluid substitution analysis. The workflow also supports direct prediction of reservoir properties from elastic data using rock physics templates.

Advanced Geobody Interpretation
New multi-Z interpretation capabilities provide a more flexible approach to defining and managing complex geobody boundaries. These interpretations can be converted into geobody labels, supporting downstream analysis and AI-driven workflows.

Enhanced Data Integration
SubsurfaceAI 2026.1 expands Petrel integration by supporting additional object types, including multi-Z interpretations and geobody objects. It also introduces new data import capabilities to further improve interoperability and streamline workflows, including wavelet file import and well list import.

Next-Generation Visualization
Users can now overlay multiple volumes for more effective data comparison and interpretation. Base map annotation tools allow users to add notes and comments directly within the workspace, supporting collaboration and interpretation tracking.

Scalable AI and Secure System Architecture
coreAI processing has been centralized on a dedicated AI server, improving scalability, performance, and deployment flexibility. In addition, SSL-enabled communication across system components enhances system security and ensures reliable data exchange.

Why SubsurfaceAI 2026.1 Matters
The 2026.1 release strengthens the connection between seismic data, rock physics, and reservoir understanding. By embedding rock physics into the interpretation workflow and enhancing both system performance and data integration, SubsurfaceAI 2026.1 enables teams to interpret more consistently and validate results with greater confidence.
